Simu Klear is a UCC initiative designed to protect consumers from the dangers of using illegitmate communication devices, safeguard against device theft, and prevent the use of such devices in fraud and other criminal activities
What is SIMU Klear?
SIMU Klear is a collaborative initiative led by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) in partnership with Mobile Network Operators and key stakeholders. It aligns with UCC's mandate to:
- Promote and safeguard consumer and operator interests regarding the quality of communication services and equipment.
- Establish and enforce national standards while ensuring compliance with both national and international communication regulations, agreements, and treaties to which Uganda is a party.
SIMU Klear aims to:
- Discourage the importation, distribution, sale, installation, and use of unauthorized, mobile communication devices in Uganda.
- Safeguard consumers by protecting their safety, well-being, and rights against illegitmate devices.
- Deter mobile device theft and curb their use in crime and fraud.
- Preserve the integrity of mobile communication networks by eliminating illegitmate devices.
- Ensure adherence to national and international communication standards.
- Establish mechanisms for identifying illegitimate or unauthorized devices, reporting lost or stolen devices, and addressing fraud.
- Protect businesses from illicit trade, intellectual property violations, and brand infringement resulting from illegitmate communication devices.
